Melodeons
GBP prices are ex vat
Choosing your Melodeon - Firstly you need to know what style of music you will mainly want to play and each calls for a different tuning. Apart from the style you prefer, you should consider what key your friends use, so you can join in and learn from them, and the pitch of your voice. One would normally start with a two row.D/G is suited to English folk Music.B/C is for Irish music (players use both rows in order to play mainly in D or G, but the instrument is almost chromatic). In France, and most parts of North and South America G/C is preferred. In Germany C/F is the standard

Beltuna
The Beltuna melodeons are very good, very well made Italian melodeons, relatively new new to the market. The response of the reeds and bellows, and the smoothness of the keyboard make the Beltuna a very comfortable and enjoyable melodeon to play.
Scarlatti
Scarlatti Melodeons are now established as the first choice for the student player.Scarlatti Accordions, Melodeons and Concertinas are made in China. They have good reeds, and the instruments are excellent value, although they are not finished to the standards of European makers. The Scarlatti range is ideal for beginners, and they are priced very attractively to enable you to take a chance and see if the instrument is for you. Although they are a beginner's instrument, they are of a much higher quality than the Chinese Accordions, melodeons and concertinas of the past, and will keep you going for some time.
Delicia
Delicia, based in the Czech Republic, make a comprehensive range of melodeons, including the Popular which is an ideal starter box, Italian style models in very attractive solid cherry wood finish, and big traditional Czech instruments with fancy inlay and shiny silvery bits! The quality is excellent, and their reeds have such a good reputation that other well known brands use them too.
Castagnari
Castagnari is a small family workshop in Italy which produces a superb range of craftsman made instruments. All have an attractive natural wood finish, open keyboard, delicately fretted wooden grille, and the very best in reed work. Attention is paid to every detail, you simply can't buy a better melodeon at any price.
Serenellini
Serenellini make beautifully finished melodeons in Italy in a similar style to instruments sold by Saltarelle. They represent excellent value, and the powerful sound of the reeds and flexibility of the stops has made them a firm favourite.
